When construction was completed in 2010, 360 State Street was one of the first new multi-family residences of its kind in New Haven, CT. As other such buildings began to crop up, Bozzuto reached out to Hartman Design Group to renovate the lobby. The goal was to create a memorable first impression and increase the building amenities by utilizing the large space. Working within budget constraints, HDG refaced, refinished, and refurnished the existing lobby – transforming this simple, austere space into a warm, homey common area for the residents to gather. The large fireplace, comfortable furnishings, and earthy color palette invite you to come in, sit down, and stay awhile.
To cater to the needs of the residents – mostly professors and graduate students – HDG turned the large, open lobby into an active, social space by creating multiple seating areas, a coffee bar, and a separate meeting room where residents can work privately, study in groups, or have social gatherings. HDG even found room in the budget to renovate and upgrade the existing fitness center by adding new finishes and state-of-the-art equipment and to upgrade the pool-side furnishings. By working creatively, HDG was able to improve both the functionality and the appeal of 360 State Street.
