The Vine
Laurel, MD

Multi-family interior design firm Hartman Design Group was honored to be part of this project.

The design premise of The Vine came from Buch Construction, the developers of this 283-unit multifamily apartment complex in Laurel, Maryland. The Buch family had owned this land and used it as their homestead, family farm, and private vineyard before converting it into this casual-modern multi-family community.

Our designers embraced the site’s history with rustic farm and vineyard references, such as reclaimed barn wood accents, custom lighting made from wine barrels and bottles, and warm leather and plaid upholstery. The lobby retains an airy modernism with broad open spaces divided with metallic screens and a double-sided glass fireplace that anchors two seating areas in the lobby. The main level features the most up-to-date amenities, such as a powered bar table that borders a high-backed sofa in one of the TV areas, private co-working booths, a large conference room, and an open marketing space that’s shared with residents.

The outdoor areas play to the Vine’s country setting: Nestled behind a thick border of trees, multiple seating and dining areas with pops of color surround a large pool that includes a watery lounging deck, while grill stations allow for poolside meals. Inside, a state-of-the-art fitness area faces the pool deck through a wall of windows, and the bar next door is convenient for indoor-outdoor flow.

Every space at The Vine exudes a sophisticated, modern feel that’s grounded with family-farm ambiance, windmill accessories in the lobby, for example; Windsor chairs in a model unit; and folksy artwork combined with abstract works on the walls. Our favorite is a painting by Prescott that hangs over a custom wood and metal console in the conference room, depicting three country women striding across a field. To us, that vision speaks to the Buch family, who made this project possible.
